VIBE, VOLUME 1 pairs Organized Kryme's band and production crew with veteran Jamaican singer Johnny Osbourne. The group's dubs--done in a cool, jazzy style that's not too slick--would make for a very listenable album by any standards. But by giving props to and collaborating with Osbourne, one of Studio One's original singers, Organized Kryme takes their music to the next level.
Often called the greatest singer of vintage dancehall music, Johnny Osbourne produced a string of "boomshots" (big hits) during those roots rocking, cool and deadly dancehall years, including "Water Pumping," "Buddy Bye," and "Yo Yo." The album revisits "Yo Yo" and the smooth, melt-in-your-mouth lines of "Ice Cream Love" ("My Love is warmer than a chocolate fudge"), while adding new tunes like the soulful "Jah Love." Dubs of the vocals are cleverly indicated by the patois "brawta"-- meaning "a little more"--following titles, e.g. "Ice Cream Brawta."
