Ran Blake's follow-up to his Film Noir Novus album of 1980 is just as extraordinary. Half of the selections on this set are his reinterpretations of themes from moody films, including The Wild One, Rosemary's Baby, and a remarkable suite from Vertigo in which he musically depicts the movie in a different light. The other selections are originals based on the plots of films (including the Alfred Hitchcock films Marnie, Wrong Man and Strangers on a Train). One can almost see the action occuring during these new "soundtracks." The set makes for fascinating listening and is particularly recommended to movie fans.
