AllMusic Review by

This LP was the first release by the Meritt Record Society, a label that stuck pretty exclusively to coming out with material not previously made available. On this strong (but now pretty much impossible to find) album there are valuable alternate takes from Jelly Roll Morton's Red Hot Peppers, Tiny Parham, the State Street Stompers, Paul Howard's Quality Serenaders, the Jones-Collins Astoria Hot Eight, Bennie Moten, Fletcher Henderson, Mills Blue Rhythm Band, Ernie Fields's Orchestra, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington ("Bojangles" and "Blue Goose") and Harlan Leonard's Rockets.
