No need to worry about Casey Rice's 12" debut as Designer sounding too much like Tortoise; though he enlists the services of that group's John Herndon and former affiliate Bundy Brown, it's very much Rice's affair. Each of the single's three tracks benefit from subtle flourishes, avoiding the common ills of being too obvious or too clever. Red Red Meat joins Rice on the B-side, and a Larson remix of the A-side nicely hones in on the percussion. What, no diva wails from Liz Phair?
