The music on this set is fairly conventional, straight-ahead jazz, even though all seven songs are originals by German guitarist Christian Eckert. Eckert is a laid-back improviser with a very relaxed style. While the leader's tone is appealing, pianist-organist Anke Helfrich often takes solo honors. The music ranges from jazz waltzes and ballads to blues-based music and groovin' rhythms. None of the individual songs are all that memorable, but the musicianship is excellent. It will be interesting to see what these modern mainstream musicians do in the future, especially if they have a fire lit under them.
