These boom-bap purists deep in the heart of Texas provide only classic hip-hop productions. A series of well-received singles comprises the meat of Universal, K-Otix's debut album. From the jangly funk of "Mind Over Matter" to the majestic strumming of "World Renown," from the motivating echoes of "U Know the Name" to the sliding cadence of "Take a Breather," K-Otix quickly established itself as a DJ favorite on the underground circuit. The group's biggest asset may in fact be its producer, the Are, who has an impeccable ear for effective samples. With tried and true MCs Damien and Mic fronting his refined creations, Universal is as polished as K-Otix is learned.
