California is well-known for their thriving music scene, many of the modern contemporaries held in high esteem are California natives. One group that has the potential to blow everyone away with their amazing rock music is the band known collectively as Tenfold. While listening to Un Animo, all one has to wonder is why this spectacular four-piece remains hidden on an obscure label like 720 records. Tenfold knows how to make incredibly solid music, and the group's ability to churn out songs that have no drawback whatsoever is refreshing. A blend of emo melodies and modern rock heaviness balance out perfectly, creating songs that are beautiful in their intentions. From the dynamic "Mimic" to the hard rock gem and title track, Un Animo succeeds on all fronts. There is a certain quality musically that is reminiscent of VAST, which is admirable. "Breathless" leaves the listener feeling exactly that, the music is almost too much for the cranium to take. To pick a favorite track would be quite difficult, yet if it must be done, it would have to be "Liquid," with the underlying bass menace and pumped-up guitars. Tenfold knows how to build a song up for the best response, and "Liquid" is the perfect example. While many of their peers continue to make less than stellar emo that is subjected to critics' biting words, Tenfold takes the high road, and finds praise for making music that has atmosphere and substance.
