Although billed as a tribute to Thelonious Monk, this set of piano solos from Errol Parker (comprised of his imaginative renditions of nine standards) does not contain any Monk tunes or even any songs associated with the pianist/composer. Nor does Parker sound at all like Thelonious, so the "tribute" is in sharing an equally adventurous spirit. Parker's unusual piano style often finds his left hand playing conventional harmony while his right hand solos in a different key altogether. Certainly his renditions of such tunes as "A Foggy Day," "Autumn Leaves," "Three Blind Mice," and "Lush Life" (which is taken uptempo) are quite unique.
