This LP finds Lou Stein doing the impossible (and certainly improbable): duplicating note for note a dozen Art Tatum solos. Stein mostly stuck to Tatum's 1930s recordings (when Art was at the peak of his creativity); among the Tatum solos that he brought back to life are "Elegy," "Begin the Beguine," "Humoresque" and "The Man I Love" (wisely leaving out the much-too-incredible rendition of "Tiger Rag"). Lou Stein worked several years on perfecting these improvisations, and this Chiaroscuro album is quite unique in its own way.
