Trax Sampler, Vol. 56 Review

by Andy Kellman

France's Trax magazine includes a free ten-track disc of music with each issue, most of which should be snapped up whenever possible. Each volume provides an up-to-date summation of underground dance music -- much of it European fare -- along with some nods to the outer fringes of indie rock and cutting-edge rap and R&B. The 56th volume, released in 2002, includes Trash Palace's "The Metric System," Derrick Carter's "Where You At?," Jeff Mills' "The March," Vikter Duplaix's "Morning Fun," Thievery Corporation's "Facing East," Amon Tobin's "Proper Hoodige," and John Thomas' "Working Night." Not one of the best, but certainly not the worst of the series.
