This CD presents the music of a Nepalese cast of musicians called the Gaïné. They make their living by offering services to the public. They are a "polluting" cast and contact with them requires purification. Their main instrument is the Indian sarangui, which is sometimes accompanied by a Nepalese drum, the pachima. The sarangui is the well-known Indian fiddle, but in Nepal it is more or less played exclusively by this cast of musicians. The songs of the Gaïné are generally about heartbreak, the beauty of nature, and the hardships of daily living.
