Although drummer Tom Cohen is the leader of the trio, the main voice throughout is the Bill Evans-inspired pianist Ron Thomas, with Mike Richmond or (on "Untitled Ballad") William Zinno playing bass. Not only is Thomas the main soloist, but he contributed eight of the dozen selections, which also include three Bill Evans tunes and one song by Richmond. The music, not too surprisingly, is in the Bill Evans vein at times, with close interplay by the musicians, chord voicings that are reminiscent of Evans, and the type of chord changes that the late pianist enjoyed. However, Ron Thomas' own musical personality does pop through and he does a fine job of being creative within the idiom, swinging hard in spots (driven by Cohen), yet also playing inventively on the more introspective pieces.
