Cocktail Hour is an unusual but nonessential record for fans of the electrified Three Suns. Stylistically, it is about what one would expect for 1956. The Suns have emerged from the dreary "Twilight Time" of their previous years (as Mamie Eisenhower's favorite band) but have not yet developed the zaniness of their later RCA records. A third of the tunes, such as "Tea for Two," are sung by the Royale Cocktail Group. It is an interesting pairing, but neither group's performance merits an entire LP. Fans of all things cocktail may appreciate it for its camp value.
