This double CD has the complete This Is Jazz radio shows of Mar. 8, 15, 24 and 31, 1947. Hosted by Rudi Blesh (whose well-meaning announcements come across as quite dated), the performances emphasize Dixieland and feature cornetist Muggsy Spanier, clarinetist Albert Nicholas, trombonist George Brunies, guitarist Danny Barker, bassist Pops Foster, drummer Baby Dodds and either Charlie Queener, Joe Sullivan or Art Hodes on piano. Pianist Dan Burley guests on two numbers, and soprano saxophonist Sidney Bechet is a major asset to the Mar. 24 program. Each show featured at least a couple of strong ensemble numbers, and trad jazz historians will want to get each of the valuable twofers.
