The second half of a collection of highlights from the first season of This American Life, the creative public radio show which won a Peabody for this debut year of programming. Highlights on the second disc include "My Life As a Self Hating Republican," an essay/documentary by sex advice columnist Dan Savage. An avowed liberal and a homosexual, Savage was invited to sit in on a Republican district meeting after writing a column lambasting the local Republican party. He ended up registering as a member of the party and becoming a delegate to a regional convention. While not exactly a model for ideal bipartisan politics, Savage's story is a hilarious experiment. Another highlight is host Ira Glass' interview with his mother, a psychologist. Glass was astounded to discover his mom quoted as a "sexpert" in a national magazine, and confronted her about it in this taped interview.
