June 6, 1935, was a very busy day for Benny Goodman and his big band. The group recorded no less than 51 tunes for transcriptions that were leased to NBC radio stations under the pseudonym of The Rhythm Makers Orchestra. Recorded shortly before BG made it big (otherwise they could not have been disguised as a fictional band), these excellent sides are a fine showcase for Goodman and his sidemen which at the time included trumpeter Pee Wee Erwin, pianist Frank Froeba and drummer Gene Krupa among others. This first of three LP volumes is highlighted by a surprisingly effective swing version of "Yes, We Have No Bananas."
