By 1949 most of the surviving swing bands were incorporating some boppish ideas into their arrangements, even Les Brown's. This set of radio transcriptions (the third of three Hindsight Les Brown LPs) finds the Band of Renown playing such modern numbers as "Boptized," "Teasey Toe" and "Ah-Boo Ah-Boo." Lucy Ann Polk takes two vocals and there is one apiece from Butch Stone and Stumpy Brown but the instrumentals are the most memorable selections, often featuring trumpeters Wes Hensel and Frank Beach, trombonist Ray Sims, clarinetist Abe Most and tenorman Dave Pell. Bop fans who do not think of Les Brown as having a "modern" orchestra will find this music particularly interesting.
