This enjoyable LP puts the focus on five long-forgotten but talented territory bands of the late '20s and early '30s. All eight selections recorded by Curtis Mosby's Dixieland Blue Blowers (an excellent group from Los Angeles) fill up side one while one of the two songs cut by Maynard Baird's Orchestra (a band from Knoxville, TN), three of the four sides performed by Red Perkins's Dixie Ramblers and both of the titles recorded by singer Victoria Spivey with Hunter's Serenaders (which like Perkins was from Omaha, NE) and Grant Moore's New Orleans Balack Devils (from Arkansas) are on the flip side. It is surprising that none of the sidemen became well-known because these are excellent bands with Mosby's being most memorable on titles such as "Whoop 'Em up Blues," "Tiger Stomp" and "Blue Blowers Blues." Recommended.
