The 2007 release by A Second from the Surface, The Streets Have Eyes, is a relaxing sonic dreamscape of soothing sounds -- akin to slowly floating down a cool river on a raft. April Fools! Screams, rapid riffing, and drumming that would make Manimal proud add up to one over the top, extreme metal assault. Very little variety, folks, but when you have this much aggression, venom, and hostility pent up, who wants to write their Dark Side of the Moon? Part grindcore, part death metal, and part hardcore, you can take a random pick of any of the ten tracks on The Streets Have Eyes -- "King Cobra," "Scene I Don't Remember," etc. -- and experience the same warm and fuzzy feeling of a sonic bludgeoning. And lastly, A Second from the Surface should be commended for creating such an intense racket with a total of only three gentlemen in the band. Congratulations, lads!
