This double-disc set doesn't present any kind of "Story of Soft Machine" at all. In fact, these are the same utterly dodgy, bootleg tapes that have been circulating in countless packages with different covers for years and years -- since the cassette era at least! The first disc contains loads of early live tracks and demos of questionable to awful quality (in execution as well as sound) of the band from its original incarnation with Kevin Ayers on through. Disc two collects solo tracks of different members either as leaders or in collaboration with other artists such as Hugh Hopper with Daevid Allen. If you are a Soft Machine fanatic, you have all this stuff seven times over more than likely. If you are new to the band, this should be avoided at all costs.
