A mildly suggestive, rock-influenced dance-pop release that's more comic than erotic, The Sexual Album must be taken for exactly what it is: pure entertainment. Goddess never claimed to have either the sociopolitical insights of Crystal Waters or the impressive chops of Martha Wash and Lisa Stansfield, and she never claimed that this CD was meant to be a great work of art. Her obvious aim is to simply have some wild, trashy fun, and she accomplishes that goal in a major way on such infectious tunes as "Sexual" (an amusing parody of Madonna's "Vogue"), "Lingerie," "In My Bed" and "Erotic." With a caricuture-like approach that's somewhere between Samantha Fox and Prince disciples Vanity and Apollonia (though she's never as explicit as Prince's naughty girls), Goddess knows that a little decadence can be a healthy thing.
