Like all of Time-Life's single-disc collections, this one is both generous -- at 22 tracks -- and carefully put together, featuring songs that weren't always huge hits but still hold up wonderfully decades later. Alongside well-known hits like Ben E. King's "Spanish Harlem" are lesser-known -- but no less worthwhile -- cuts like James Ray's "If You Gotta Make a Fool of Somebody," the Ventures' infectious instrumental "Perfidia," and the Marathons' goofy but lovable "Peanut Butter." The cover art is a little tacky, but the music is great.
