AllMusic Review by

This excellent two-LP set includes Count Basie's top small-group session of the '60s and a "live from Las Vegas" big-band performance from 1969. The former features Basie with a septet that includes trumpeter Thad Jones and tenors Frank Foster and Eric Dixon, while the latter finds virtually all of the solo space on the Basie standards being ably taken by trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison and tenor-saxophonist Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis (in addition to the leader). Together, these two memorable sessions contain plenty of typically swinging music in the Basie tradition.
