At a glance this looks like a CD reissue of their 1970 Crewe LP, and the first nine of the 21 tracks present that album in its entirety. However, this disc is actually a career retrospective, adding a dozen bonus cuts from the mid- and late '60s from non-LP singles and outtakes. This is almost certainly an unauthorized compilation, given that it assembles tracks from several labels, and that the bonus cuts have obviously been mastered from vinyl (although the tracks from the LP sound very clear and good). In a sense, this is a botched opportunity: the extra material encompasses many, but not all, of the songs from their highly desirable (and rare) '60s singles, and thus cannot be considered the final word on this group's legacy. Nonetheless, it's great to have this stuff available on reissue at long last, as the bonus material does include the superb, Beatlesque "Feelin' Lost" and "Little Girls Cry" singles, the hard R&B of "Leavin' Here" and "Sing!," and their white soul ballad "I Need You," not to mention the outtake "Poor Dog."
