The Past and Tomorrows

The powerful trumpeter Barbara Donald leads a strong sextet that also features the tenors of Carter Jefferson and Gary Hammon on Monk's "Pannonica" and several group originals. The music is advanced hard bop with plenty of room for stirring improvisations, particularly by the leader. In view of the fact that the talented Barbara Donald has rarely recorded since this album, someone should give her a recording contract.
