Made up of the couple Rod Sledge and Wilynda, Collette Carter originally was known as Stereo Symphonic. Their record, The New Stroboscopic, is a full array of various keyboard sounds and electronic artistry. The percussion statements are compelling and meaningful. The tone of the record suggests themes of love and relationships, heartbreak, and keeping together. And the music is as dynamic as their time together makes them. Much of the material features a variety of textured, mellow electronic beats and rhythms with melody and lyrical hooks hovering over them. Some of the beats and electronic sounds are spacy and staggeringly off time. Collette Carter is featured on the label Ibtmo/Darla, along with sister groups Sweet Trip and Junior Varsity KM. For dance rock fans, this record is quite an ethereal look into the most spacy of 21st century electronic indie pop.
