The London Rock and Roll Show was the first concert staged at London's Wembley Stadium on August 5, 1972, and the 11-hour show was commemorated both with a video and audio recording. This disc captures the highlights of the performances by the rock & roll originators -- Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Haley, Little Richard, and Chuck Berry -- who closed the show with one incendiary set after another. Much of that excitement is present in these excerpts, but the music is marred by technical difficulties. The most serious problem is that the disc seems to have been mastered at the wrong speed; it runs a little slow, which, for example, makes Lewis sound like he's singing in a lower key than he does usually. Even if the speed were correct, however, the sound quality is not much better than what you'd expect from a bootleg. The audience reacts rapturously to the performances, and no doubt the video is a better representation of the show than this seriously flawed disc.
