Aside from Ariel's charms as one of Disney's most appealing princesses, The Little Mermaid's music is one of the main reasons it remains one of the studio's most endearing films. The Little Mermaid Greatest Hits features the very best of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman's whimsical and poignant tunes, including the favorites "Part of Your World," "Under the Sea," and "Kiss the Girl." Fortunately, the collection doesn't shy away from the movie's more disturbing songs, chief among them Ursula the Sea Witch's standout "Poor Unfortunate Souls" and the French Chef's gleefully gluttonous "Les Poissons." The collection also includes tracks "inspired" by The Little Mermaid, including Sebastian's version of "You Can Get It If You Really Want," which originally appeared on the calypso and reggae songs collection Disney's Sebastian from the Little Mermaid. While these songs don't have quite the spark of the original film's music, they're a fun part of the Little Mermaid experience. The same goes for Carly Rae Jepsen and Felicia Barton's respective interpretations of "Part of Your World" and "The Real Thing" (a version of "Kiss the Girl") -- even if they're not as inspired as the originals, they help make this collection a nice part of the Little Mermaid world.
