AllMusic Review by

Cleopatra's triple-disc box set The History of Ska puports to follow the evolution of ska, from its roots in Jamaica through its development into reggae and to the ska-revival of the late '70s. Certainly, there's enough first-rate ska material to make a great box set, but The History of Ska isn't it. For various reasons, the box misses many major artists and big songs, consequently giving a slightly distorted overview of the genre's history. There are a number of excellent songs here, including Desmond Dekker's "Rudi Got Soul" and Bob Marley's "Duppi Conqueror," yet there isn't enough cohesion or logical sequencing to mkae The History of Ska a worthwhile purchase.
