AllMusic Review by

Back in the 1980s, trombonist J.J. Johnson and guitarist Joe Pass recorded a set of duets. The trombone-guitar sound has been revived in this duet outing by Jiggs Whigham and Gene Bertoncini. Whigham has long been an underrated trombonist, but his interplay with the sensitive guitar chordings of Bertoncini should help give him a bit more recognition. Together the duo performs ten Hoagy Carmichael songs, mostly the famous ones (including "Stardust," "Georgia on My Mind," and "Skylark"), with only "One Morning in May" being close to being an obscurity. But the familiarity does not matter, because the unusual instrumentation and the creative playing of the duo make the songs sound quite fresh. Recommended.
