AllMusic Review by

Other than a splash of guitar reverb, no effects or overdubs were used to create this one-man electric-guitar album. The Electric Guitar, gently layered with otherworldly, manual guitar effects, is surprisingly dense for such an unadorned approach to solo guitar. This is an unearthed gem from the mid-'80s for anyone who can appreciate experimental instrumental music. Well worth looking into, this CD issue includes a bonus track, "Big Bend," recorded live, over the original vinyl release. This is a very personal and experimental record of tone coloring summoned from the body of the guitar. Do not expect leads and riffs. The exotic result summons images of forgotten desert kingdoms. There is some mysticism behind this release. Having survived being struck by lightning, his South African Xhosa bandmates believe that God reached down and touched him. In creating this spiritual experiment in sound, Hewins seeks to reach back up.
