A drama about an unbalanced love triangle between a teenage girl, her mother, and her mother's boyfriend, 2015's The Diary of a Teenage Girl was the directorial debut of actress/writer Marielle Heller. Set in 1976 San Francisco, the soundtrack features period tunes from the likes of T. Rex, Television, Mott the Hoople, the Stooges, and Heart. Two new songs written specifically for the film by the director's brother, Nate Heller, bookend the track listing. The wistful, acoustic guitar-strummed "Dreamsong" features floaty vocals by Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors, and "Run to the Mountain" is an upbeat banjo tribute to affection befitting a quirky, animation-peppered indie teen romance.
