The second of two reissue CDs brings back an unusual concert that teamed together four New Orleans veterans (trumpeter Kid Thomas Valentine, trombonist Jim Robinson, altoist Capt. John Handy and drummer Sammy Penn) with four younger kids from Connecticut who knew the music well (clarinetist Sammy Rimington, pianist Bill Sinclair, banjoist Dick Griffith and bassist Dick McCarthy. Handy is in excellent form (taking a long solo on "Handy's Boogie"), Robinson is fine, Rimington recalls George Lewis and Valentine is typically eccentric and (as usual) an acquired taste. Highlights include "High Society," "Uptown Bumps" and "You Tell Me Your Dreams."
