In 1975 the Bluebird reissue series initiated a "complete Glenn Miller" program of double LPs; it would be completed in 1980 with Vol. IX and all of the music has since appeared in a comprehensive set on CD. This first two-fer is particularly interesting for it has two sessions (from Sept. 27, 1938 and Feb. 6, 1939) that predate the beginning of Glenn Miller's phenomenal success. "King Porter Stomp" and a two-part version of "By the Waters of Minnetonka" are from the early days while the later dates on this set are highlighted by the original versions of "Moonlight Serenade" and "Little Brown Jug."
