AllMusic Review by William Ruhlmann

Initially disinclined to release The Boomtown Rats' fifth album, V Deep, in the face of the low sales of their previous LPs, Columbia Records tried shaving the album down to a four-song EP containing the tracks "Charmed Lives," "House On Fire," "Skin On Skin," and "Storm Breaks." These were not, however, the four best songs on the album ("Never In A Million Years," for example, would have been a much better choice), even if they were perhaps the most dance-ready. Still, The Rats weren't going to make it as a disco act, and Columbia finally decided to just go ahead and release the whole album, rendering this EP redundant. (Not to be confused with The Boomtown Rats [Mercury 1188], the band's 1977 debut album.)
