The Blanco y Negro Years Review

by Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Edsel/Rhino's 2015 clamshell box set The Blanco & Negro Years essentially serves up remastered double-disc expansions of Eddi Reader's eponymous 1994 album and 1996's Candyfloss & Medicine, plus 1999's Angels and Electricity, rounded out by three bonus tracks. These records get such lavish expansions because they arrived during the golden age of the multi-part CD single, so there are plenty of B-sides to fill out the extra discs. This means there aren't any unreleased cuts -- the rarest things are the Japanese-only tracks that round out Angels and Electricity -- but this is a handsome and convenient way to get everything from Reader's prime at once.
