The Best of Broadway Review

by William Ruhlmann

Nine well-known songs from Broadway musicals culled from Ferrante & Teicher's United Artists albums of the 1960s and 1970s are presented on this budget album, starting with "Tonight" from West Side Story, a big hit for them that, at the time, was actually keyed to the 1961 movie version of the show. Typically, the more traditional material, such as "Hello Dolly" and "The Impossible Dream" works better than the more contemporary, such as Jesus Christ Superstar's "I Don't Know How To Love Him" and (egads!) "Aquarius" from Hair. But it's all in the patented F&T style, and fine for that.
