Recorded in 2001 and released on Mike Viola's own Good Morning Monkey label in 2007, Temple of Static is a collection of the artist's self-amusements in the studio, including instrumentals and numbers with nonsense lyrics (or tributes to the equipment itself, such as "Mayak 204 Box"), all performed with extensive synthesizer music. "It is by far the wackiest and most self-indulgent album Mike has made," announces the Website mikeviola.com, and there's no argument there. Whether the listener will agree "it's also a hell of a lot of fun to indulge" may be a measure of a Viola fan's tolerance and sense of humor. But at least he's not trying to get anything by anyone. Read the description on the Website before ordering, and then proceed at your own risk.
