Some of the Philippines' most revered songs are the theme songs from television soap operas. Star Records happens to be a sister company of powerhouse TV station ABS-CBN, and has fast access to the theme songs. Using this advantage, the label has put together 2002's Teleserye TV Theme Songs (Soap Opera TV Theme Songs), which contains 13 theme songs to soap operas. The songs are sung by a variety of performers, including popular female singer Pops Fernandez, male singer Jeffrey Hidalgo, and talented female singer Roselle Nava. It's not surprising that many of the theme songs are passionate easy listening love songs, as easy listening music is the country's most popular style. While some easy listening songs here sound derivative, a number of other songs have depth, including "Mula Sa Puso" (From the Heart), the best song on the album. The song has a memorable melody, and the performance by Roselle Nava is just as memorable. Another fine song is the Latin-tinged "Esperanza," performed by male singer Andrei Ibarra. The album also contains four spirited, middle-of-the-road numbers. However, instead of spreading these songs throughout the album to provide some variation, the spirited numbers are all placed at the end of the album. Nonetheless, "Pahina" (Page) and "I Love You Babe" are pleasant, if a bit lightweight, spirited numbers.
