Though the second volume of Blue Öyster Cult's Tales of the Psychic Wars was recorded two years later than its predecessor, the band remains intact and the material is nearly identical. What this means, of course, is that while BOC were still a viable concert draw and delivered in front of an audience, they were out of ideas musically. One look through the set list here reveals that their best years were indeed behind them, since virtually everything here is either from their first four studio albums or a cover. No matter for hardcore fans, though. What is here is performed beautifully, the mix is loud and proud, and the band is playing at pure stun level. Check the versions of "Hot Rails to Hell," "Don't Fear the Reaper," and even the cover of the Doors' "Roadhouse Blues" for evidence. For those who purchased the original two-disc set, this is merely disc two of that package and you need not buy it again.
