Echi Danzanti (Echoing Dances) is an arrangement of Bussotti's chamber opera La Passion selon Sade made by harpist Giovanna Reitano for concert performance. The whole of the music of the opera, played on the harp along with some percussion in four overlaid tracks, is included on the tape made by the performer. The composer then created a new solo harp part to be played with the tape and added a spoken part using texts from the opera. While that might sound as if a lot were going on, the effect is in fact quite spare, with the harp's (both taped and live) gestures punctuating the silence. The sound of the harp is evocative, delicate, mysterious, and often quite beautiful, and the text, spoken dramatically by the composer, adds a humanizing element that ties the work together as a whole. The piece should interest new music enthusiasts, particularly fans of experimental music theater. The sound is extraordinarily clear and intimate; every breath and pedal change is audible.
