Super Butter Dog were only in the spotlight of the Japanese pop scene briefly, from about 1997 to 2003. A few years after their unofficial dissolution (but before their official breakup), the Super Better Better Dog compilation was released, a two-disc set that captures every important song from their eight albums (there was also a single-disc version released shortly thereafter). The set captures the band's adherence to funk principles throughout, as well as the extremely able guitar of leader Tomoyasu Takeuchi. The sound is complex, built on funk and garage band aesthetics in equal parts, and always fun.
