Carte Blanche is an exceedingly sweet and nice duo made up of cute couple Richard and Dana, and Summer's End is their debut EP. The sound of the band is West Coast indie pop for daydreamers. Built on lightly strummed acoustic guitars, understated drums, and gentle electric guitars, the seven songs float past like hot air balloons on the horizon at dusk as Richard and Dana sing harmonies in the intimate and polite whispers. Very sweet stuff indeed. The hooky "I'll Take a Chance" and "Lucky," which calmly shimmers and sparkles like the best guitar pop should, are the standout songs, but they all are of very high quality. Think of a more self-assured Damon & Naomi, a more relaxed Beachwood Sparks, or even classic indie pop like East Village and you'll be barking up the right tree. If you're into that stuff, think about hunting down this release on the tiny Shmat label and you'll be sitting pretty.
