In the course of six short years, the Beatles went from mild mod to embracing the hippie movement. Conversely, Ready for the World went from Jeri curl to new jack swing in about the same span of time. But what separates Ready for the World from the Beatles -- among several dozen other obvious things -- is that the Beatles maintained a level of quality and consistency in their music. Unfortunately, RFTW's 1991 offering didn't hold up the degree of promise that made their first two records so unbelievably infectious and enjoyable, and is a portrait of a group simply trying too hard to adapt to then-current R&B trends. This is most definitely one only for completists and/or die hard new jack fanatics.
