Courageously sticking with the name, Hippiehaus returned with its second album, 2001's Stars. There were snatches of slow, appropriated dub and a catchy, lightweight touch to the jam-based mechanics again, but it was a little healthier this time, and the band was more at home in its world of house rhythms, white funk guitars, and David Gahan vocal replication. "Deep Down," "Venus," "Bikkya," and "Hand in Hand" were standouts, sounding like a cynicism-free, sunlit Black Box Recorder or the Sugababes if they were three serious-looking German men.
