Perry Conticchio is a high-powered tenor saxophonist whose tone on some of his originals recalls John Klemmer a little. He is a bit more lyrical and laid-back on soprano. His pianoless quartet, recorded in Springfield, VA, has guitarist Rodney Richardson as a key voice. Trumpeter Joseph Brotherton and pianist Wayne Wilentz guest on two songs apiece. The problem with this set is that the recording quality is not the best, with Conticchio's tone (particularly on tenor) coming across as a bit distorted. In addition, some of the performances would have benefited from being run through one more time to make the results a bit clearer and more focused. There is strong potential in these players, so Speak Your Truth can be looked upon as a primitive early effort.
