Japanese improvising guitarist Taku Sugimoto appeared on numerous records in collaboration with experimenters Kevin Drumm, Günter Müller, and Keith Rowe. On this CD, Sugimoto assembled a trio with Swiss cellist Bo Wiget and fellow guitarist Tetuzi Akiyama to explore improvisations with electronic interventions. The music is strikingly reduced at times, in the fashion of Morton Feldman or AMM. The restraint often verges on long spells of near silence, proving that, in experimental improvisation, saying less can mean so much more. New Zealand noise label Corpus Hermeticum presents this meeting in a stylish card package, and the 42 minutes of pensive sound study are compelling throughout.
