When did Badfinger's "No Matter What," Mitch Ryder's "Devil with a Blue Dress," and Sweet's "Fox on the Run" become highlights of the soft rock genre? While they may not be on par with Black Sabbath or Mountain, they certainly don't belong on the same collection as Maria Muldaur's "Midnight at the Oasis." What Brentwood's double-disc Soft Rock, Vol. 2 lacks in focus it occasionally makes up for in material, boasting 24 tracks of '70s schmaltz like "Magic" by Pilot and Lobo's "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo" amidst odd rockers like "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" by the Animals.
