Shouting the Odds, the first album from the underground punk group Contempt, is an album filled with rage and angst that never quite seems to focus the music towards the venom of the lyrics. The album is actually quite poppy, with many of the songs having very memorable vocal lines. But the lyrics betray the music many times, not fully putting across the point that the group obvious wants to make. Fans of this sort of music will probably find a lot to like here, but with titles like "War on the Poor" and "Full of Sh*t," one would expect something more along the lines of the Dead Kennedys than Blink 182.
