Most but not all of the music on this French RCA Lp has since been reissued on CD. Rarest are two somewhat humorous titles ("Blockbuster" and "Dynamite") that find trumpeter Shorty Rogers (under the pseudonym of "Boots Brown") playing simplistic rhythm and blues with an all-star West Coast group that also includes baritonist Gerry Mulligan and the honking tenor of Jimmy Giuffre among its personnel. Also on the album are three titles from Rogers' score for the Hollywood movie The Wild One and a pair of sessions from 1954 that find him leading slightly larger (nine and eleven pieces) versions than usual of his "Giants." An interesting, diverse and well-rounded album of swinging West Coast jazz.
